Kriega R25 Motorcycle Backpack | SR Tested Product Review

The updated 25-liter backpack offers a long list of features for motorcyclists

There are a hundred different ways to transport your necessities— clothes, cell phone, laptop, wallet, notepad, or tablet—during a ride, but few systems offer the convenience of a well-designed backpack. Enter Kriega’s updated R25 Motorcycle Backpack, a midsize backpack with 25 liters of storage and long list of features the company says are intended to specifically benefit motorcyclists.

Like the rest of Kriega’s lineup, the R25 is designed around a Quadlock harness that places the load on your chest and hips for better balance and less strain on your neck. It also boasts heavy-duty YKK zippers at the main compartment, release buttons that can be operated with gloves on, a sideaccess pocket with load-compression straps for stability, an internal pocket for documents, a small laptop or a back protector (sold separately), and multiple adjusters. Several accessories are sold separately, including a 0.5-liter harness pocket, 3-liter Hydrapak reservoir, and 5- or 10-liter Drypacks.

The features aren’t a gimmick. We loaded our R25 with everything from a weekend’s worth of clothes to work essentials like a notepad and laptop, and in each case the bag felt secure, if not better, with each additional article of clothing. Even a seven-hour trek toward Northern California wasn’t enough to test its limits, and we’d hop off the bike at each stop with nothing to speak of in regard to shoulder pain. The $189 price tag might seem a bit much for a backpack, and a few small external pockets would be nice for organization’s sake, but we guarantee that you’ll be satisfied with the R25, its fit, performance, and attention to detail.
