It’s official: the 2017 Yamaha YZF-R6 is here, and it’s ready to raise the bar in the middleweight division. The new bike comes after a dark period of eight long years where the 600 class received hardly any love from the manufacturers, which makes it one of the most exciting releases of the new-bike season so far. It’s here, it’s new, and it’s worth being excited about.

The new R6 comes standard with several upgrades derived directly from the R1, and they aren’t hard to spot. The bodywork and fuel tank have been reshaped to have the same style as the R1 and also to improve aerodynamic efficiency, and the new model also rides on the same 43mm KYB front forks and KYB shock as it’s big brother. Additionally, the bike is now outfitted with a six-level (plus off) traction control system and Yamaha’s D-mode System — a first for the R6.

So before we get too caught up in all the details of the new bike, take a minute to scroll through the photos below and admire the fact that there is a new 600 on the market, and it’s going to be good!
