QUICK TEST: Sidi XTreme Boot

Sidi’s latest off-road boot first test.

Sidi XTreme Boot

Sidi isn't new to producing off-road boots. In fact, the Italian company has been in the business of manufacturing motorcycle boots and cycling shoes since the 1970s. Since that time, Sidi has grown into one of the leaders in foot protection, offering excellent foot protection for off-road motorcycling.

On the heels of this year’s big motorcycles shows around the world, Sidi has released a new addition to its lineup of off-road motocross boots. The XTreme boot is the company’s new mid-level boot that offers numerous bells and whistles at a price that’s affordable. When compared to other boots of the same price on the market today, the XTreme has a lot more to offer. “When we’re selling to people,” MotoNation’s Bill Barroth said. “We don’t say that Sidi has one high-end boot, we tell them that Sidi has two. We have the Crossfire 2 and now the XTreme.”

MotoNation—Sidi’s exclusive North American distributor—recently invited the media out for one of the most interesting and unforgettable press launches yet. With no warning or allusion to what we might expect, we showed up to the address on the invitation to discover that rather than riding in the XTreme boot, we’d be skydiving. And after getting an in-depth walk-through of the boot’s features, everyone in attendance got a crash course in tandem skydiving, threw on the new boots, and took to the sky.

While skydiving wasn’t much of a test for the boots—aside from the landing—we have ridden in the boots since then and can attest to their performance. There is limited break-in time—if any at all—and the comfort is tops. While more testing is needed to truly put the XTreme through its paces, we can say that true to Sidi’s reputation, this boot performs very well, and offers a good level of protection. Check back for a more in-depth review on the boots, as we ride more laps and get a feel for what the newest Sidi boot has to offer.
