Motion Pro Ergo Spoke Wrenches - Tool Time

Ergonomics at its finest.

Motion Pro Ergo Spoke Wrenches

There haven't been any innovations in spoke wrenches since, oh, sometime just prior to the last ice age, but Motion Pro (motionpro.com) has finally broken the spell with its Ergo Spoke Wrenches. As their name implies, these tools have a nice ergonomic shape that allows your fingers to pull against a wide, flat area instead of a sharp, square edge, and the ends are set at a slight angle that permits a longer turning range without the need to reset the wrench quite as often. The heat-treated, tool-steel, chrome-plated Ergos are available in six different sizes (5.0, 6.0, 6.3, 6.5, 6.8 & 7.0mm), with each wrench's size laser-engraved at both ends for easy identification. Each one also has an open end that allows for speedier spoke-nipple turning when building or truing wheels and a box end that grabs all four sides of a nipple when a higher level of torque is required.

I found these wrenches to be the most comfortable I’ve ever used. I particularly liked the firm, secure grip they maintained on all sizes and kinds of spokes, especially the way the box ends could grab ones that had gotten slightly rounded off sometime in the past.

Motion Pro sells the wrenches individually for 12.99 each and in a set of all six for $72.50. All the part numbers are listed on the company’s website.
