Piloti has made a name for itself in the automotive world developing performance-oriented shoes that combine features specific to heel-and-toe driving with pedestrian comfort, styling and everyday practicality. Now, the company is looking to gain a foothold in the two-wheel segment with the Moto800.
Named in reference to the current engine displacement in MotoGP, the Moto800 (available in five colors; half sizes 7-12, full sizes 13-15) is a general-purpose, mid-height leather boot that functions equally well for riding, driving or walking.
An obvious motorcycle-centric feature is the hook-and-loop-backed mid-foot spat that covers the laces to prevent their tangling with brake or shift levers. This same flap also helps to seal out the elements. Tec-Tuff leather and top-of-toe padding guards against shifter abrasion. The thick rubber sole with its sculpted, footpeg-friendly arch incorporates Piloti’s patented dual-density Roll Control heel.
While this tallish lace-up is more difficult to slip into than many other ankle-height boots currently on the market, it offers a very secure fit. Void of armor or plastic buckles, the 800 broke-in quickly and is flexible in all the right places. Comfort is hands-down—er, feet-down—the best of any like-styled boot we’ve tried. Thick cushioning makes the soles of other boots feel cardboard-thin.
Piloti may be new to the motorcycle scene, but its Moto800 is already a great fit.
