Video: First laps on new 2015 Yamaha R1 superbike

Monster Energy Graves Yamaha's Cameron Beaubier gets his first laps on the new 2015 Yamaha YZF-R1 superbike and gives his thoughts in this video from Yamaha

While four-time AMA Superbike champion Josh Hayes has already done plenty of laps on the new 2015 Yamaha R1, his Monster Energy Graves Yamaha teammate Cameron Beaubier had yet to swing a leg over the latest-generation R1. The 22-year-old Californian had given Hayes all he could handle in the beginning of the 2014 season and looked to be a serious threat, but some costly problems and mistakes blunted his charge in the end.

Regardless, Hayes rates Beaubier as a future champion, so Yamaha was keen to get him some seat time on the new R1 as soon as possible so that he knew what to expect once the finished superbike was in his hands. The Monster Energy Graves Yamaha team ventured out to southern California's Chuckwalla Valley Raceway for a private test to allow Beaubier to get some laps on the new R1 (in stock form with DOT race tires) under his belt. Needless to say, the Roseville native was impressed with Yamaha's latest weapon, and can't wait to ride the bike in its final superbike form to do battle in the MotoAmerica series starting at Austin on April 10.
