FAST /fast/ (adj.) - Moving or capable of moving at high speed. Example: Kawasaki World Superbike rider Jonathan Rea is fast. No, holy freaking fast.
If you followed Rea's World Superbike efforts over the years, then you're probably already aware of this. For six years you watched Rea wrestle an outdated Honda CBR1000RR around, and crash a fair bit by having to push beyond its limits. There was a general sense that, with the right bike, he could do something special. And in 2015 he proved that by going on to win the World Superbike title in his first year with Kawasaki.
This storyline hasn't read much different this year. Rea has had to share a few more race wins with Chaz Davies (9) and Tom Sykes (5), but he's still been the most consistent rider and headed the points charge from the first race on. With just two races left and a 48 point advantage over teammate Tom Sykes, it's looking more and more like Rea will make it two World Superbike titles in as many years.
For Rea and Kawasaki, the work doesn't stop though. There are still things to test. New pieces to try. Video to make!
Okay, that last bit may not be the reason for staying in Spain an extra day and participating in the post-race test at Jerez. But we'll take it. Any day getting to watch Jonathan Rea onboard video is a good day. Because fast!
