Mugello has always been somewhat of a magical place, and the Mugello GP one of those races that we look forward to year in and year out. Maybe it's the Italian fans going crazy trackside, the thought of MotoGP bikes running 220-plus mph up the long front straight, or the close racing that the track always seems to lend itself to.
Speaking of close racing, we were perusing social media recently and came across the recap video from 2014, which was when Valentino Rossi celebrated his 300th Grand Prix appearance, and Jorge Lorenzo went toe-to-toe with Marc Marquez, the two Spaniards putting just about every MotoGP fan in the world on the edge of his/her seat.
That year, Honda still had an overall better package than Yamaha, who was having issues on the brakes and suffering at the entrance of the corner. Things have changed since, with Honda now struggling to keep their RC213V competitive and Yamaha having a more balanced racebike in its latest M1.
How will that play a role in Sunday's race? We can't wait to find out.
In the meantime, click play on the video above for a look back at the epic race in 2014.
