Which Yamaha 450cc four-stroke is the one for you? Between the YZ450F motocrosser, its closely related YZ450FX cross-country racer, and the platform’s WR450F cousin, there is a whole spectrum of performance at your fingertips, with track performance and competition at one end of the spectrum and single-track fun at the other end. For a sheer smiles-per-miles fun factor, look to the WR side of the spectrum. The WR450F, characterized by its headlight, taillight, and kickstand, is the friendliest of the bunch, maintaining enough versatility to still be a viable competition bike.
After receiving a top-down overhaul in 2024, the Yamaha WR450F receives minimal upgrades for 2025—a single-layer seat skin and fresh graphics. The 450cc powerplant delivers its big torque in a trail-efficient way, and the ECU can be further tailored to suit rider preference with the Yamaha Power Tuner app. Three-level traction control is also available, ideal to help the WR450F maintain optimum footing over varied terrain, even loose, slippery, or wet conditions. Fuel injection means not having to adjust jetting when riding in a range of altitudes and weather conditions.
A 2.0-gallon fuel tank and enduro computer, equipped with fuel-level and engine warning lights, help riders go the distance on the trail. An 18-inch rear wheel, radiator fan, and EPA-approved spark arrestor muffler add to the off-road-ready prowess of the WR450F.
