The 50cc four-stroke is the classic beginner bike. With a simple, reliable, air-cooled motor and a three-speed gearbox with an automatic clutch, Yamaha’s TT-R50E puts the full dirt bike experience in a small package. The “E” on the end of the name is a reminder that Yamaha was the first to put push-button electric start on its little thumper. The “magic button” is not only convenient for parents, but inspires confidence and independence in young riders when they become capable of getting going on their own. This is also where the keyed ignition comes in handy, helping mom and dad stay in control. An adjustable throttle-stop screw acts as a restrictor so parents can adjust to allow more or less speed as kids learn.
The pint-sized Yamaha rides on a conventional fork and a single shock, just like the big bikes, and features chain drive (with a large chain cover for junior’s protection), drum brakes, and spoked 10-inch wheels wrapped in knobby tires. With easy, predictable power and plenty of torque, the TT-R50E is an ideal learning tool for young riders. They can develop skills at their own pace, and learn coordination and balance on a comfortable ride.
The 2025 Yamaha TT-R50E is available in Yamaha blue for $1899.
