MotoAmerica Superstock 1000 Rider Josh Day Suffers Massive Highside Crash at Road Atlanta

Thankfully walks away with only a broken left thumb

MotoAmerica Superstock 1000 racer Josh Day suffered what he considers to be the biggest highside crash of his career this past weekend, during Superstock 1000 Practice 3 at Road Atlanta.

Exactly how big was the crash? Big enough to make us cringe every last time we watched the video footage. And big enough for Day (plus his Yamalube/Westby Racing team and everyone at MotoAmerica, we're sure) to be thankful that motorcycle protective apparel has continued to advance in the way that it has.

Day is claimed to have only broken his left thumb in the massive off, and says that he'll be having surgery on it this week in hopes of racing at New Jersey Motorsports Park in two weeks. That's saying something considering the sheer impact of the crash, and how hard Day's Arai helmet hit the ground as he came back down from orbit.

Here's to hoping this remains the biggest highside crash of his career.
