Triumph confirms it will be introducing a limited-edition Daytona Moto2 765 model for 2020 said to produce the highest-ever power and torque from the new 765cc triple engine which has undergone further development in the FIM Moto2 series.

With Triumph being the exclusive engine supplier for Moto2, the 765cc triple engine from the Street Triple has seen a good deal of race development.Triumph Motorcycles

Ever since we learned last year that Triumph would become the 2019 exclusive engine supplier for the Moto2 class (taking over from Honda), and then spied a Street Triple 765 engine being tested in a modified Daytona chassis we figured it was only a matter of time before a new production model would be hitting showroom floors. Well, now it is—sort of.

Triumph has indeed confirmed it will be rolling out a new supersport machine meant for public consumption, but it will be a limited-edition model, and it won’t be officially revealed until August 23. Two versions will be offered: one for the US and Canada, and another version for the European and Asian markets, each one individually numbered.

Although detailed specs and figures for the model remain under cover for now, Triumph has promised the “highest-ever specification” (yes, a vague statement) for the Daytona Moto2 765 Limited Edition model, and it’ll wear a limited-edition race paint scheme, being the first-ever official Moto2 Dorna Sports-licensed motorcycle. Which leads us to believe it can’t be just the current Moto2-developed, Speed Triple-derived 138-hp powerplant married to an aging (and now gone) Daytona 675 chassis with more aggressive Moto2 bodywork; there’ll certainly be major foundational upgrades as well as altered gearing, new cases and covers, a new dash, and what looks to be different, right-side exhaust. Triumph does promise the “highest-ever power and torque from its new Moto2-derived 765cc triple engine,” with a “precision-perfect, championship-winning chassis,” so we’re hoping that means we’ll see the fruits of their ongoing Moto2 testing regimen on full display, obviously tuned for a more street-biased experience.

In fact, Triumph’s really pushing the old “win on Sunday, sell on Monday” adage, insisting that this new model will be the closest you can get to a “genuine Moto2 factory ride for the road.”

The official media reveal will take place at the British Grand Prix this summer on August 23 at the Silverstone circuit. The “765” numbers refers to engine capacity as well as the production run; just 765 units will be slated for delivery to the US and Canada, with another 765 allocated for Europe. The bike will be available in March 2020.
