Video: KTM Has Found a Unique Way to Market Its RC 390

One of the keys to selling entry-level motorcycles is getting them in front of non-endemic consumers—people who have not previously owned a motorcycle or who are not even familiar with a manufacturer's lineup. KTM has made a big push with its RC 390 at the racetrack, working with MotoAmerica to put spurs to the RC 390 Cup. But now, in what's probably best described as an attempt to reach outside the industry, it's teamed up with Aaron Gwin, a professional downhill mountain bike racer who recently made headlines by winning the Leogang, Austria, World Cup downhill after his chain fell off (the run is actually really impressive, you can watch it here).

The collab video could be seen as a bit silly at first, as the RC 390's chain is still obviously intact throughout the clip. Regardless, there’s no doubt that Aaron Gwin fans around the world, which probably includes a lot of people who hadn’t previously paid much attention to KTM’s street lineup, will now be looking at KTM’s RC 390. Maybe even as a cool, viable first ride.

Kudos to KTM for looking outside of the box at ways to market its RC 390, and for giving us two-minutes worth of video to keep us entertained today.
