With the last F4 model from MV Agusta released in 2019, the big inline four-cylinder engine only has seen use in the Brutale model lineup since then. Supersport bikes are no longer in demand like they used to be, so it seemed likely that we had seen the last of the 998cc engine being used in that guise. Clearly inspired by the success of the Superveloce 800, however, MV Agusta has decided to create a large-displacement version; the only problem is that this first Superveloce 1000 model is a “Serie Oro,” meaning that it is a limited-production version (only 500 units worldwide) with MV Agusta collectors getting first choice, and that it will be very expensive (price has been set at 70,700 euros, approximately $81,975). Granted, there are quite a few trick bits on the Superveloce 1000 Serie Oro for that money spent.
Just outboard of the air intakes that bracket the single projector headlight, a pair of full wind tunnel–developed winglets generate an unspecified amount of downforce to help keep the front tire on the ground without sacrificing agility or steering response. Carbon fiber is utilized in both laminated and press-formed types throughout the bike, with a total of 41 components being constructed out of the lightweight but strong material. The valves in the semi-radial combustion chamber arrangement are all titanium, as are the connecting rods. A full electronics suite utilizing a six-axis IMU offers up eight levels of traction control, wheelie control, four selectable riding modes, torque control, throttle sensitivity, engine-braking, engine response, and cornering ABS with rear lift mitigation and two levels of intervention (Sport and Race).
Suspension is handled by Öhlins semi-active fork and shock, with a 43mm inverted NIX EC fork providing electronically adjustable rebound and compression damping (spring preload is manually adjustable), and the TTX EC shock also employing electronically adjustable rebound and compression damping, with spring preload manually adjustable via a remote hydraulic adjuster. Braking components are top-shelf Brembo units, with Stylema calipers biting on 320mm discs up front and a twin-piston caliper/220mm disc combo in back.
The 2024 MV Agusta Superveloce 1000 Serie Oro is available in Ago Silver/Pearl Shock Red/Ciclistica Gold for 70,700 euros, approximately $81,975.
