Still shocked by the loss of former MotoGP champion Nicky Hayden, the MotoGP circus has fresh cause for alarm in a crash involving Max Biaggi, the six-time world champion and now manager of his own team in the Italian CIV Championship.

Max Biaggi suffered a serious accident while training today on a Supermotard bike on the Sagittario track in Latina, close to Rome. The Roman rider was transported by helicopter to the San Camillo Hospital in Rome with suspected thoracic and spinal trauma. Though initial reports were alarming, later news has improved.

Close friends of the champion now report that Max Biaggi is conscious. In the crash he suffered nine broken ribs and cranial trauma.

Although Biaggi is busy full time managing the Max CIV team, he has never stopped Supermotard training, a discipline that holds a special place in his heart. In fact on Sunday he was to take part in the Assoluti di Italia round scheduled there on the Latina circuit.
