Pata Yamaha announced today that it will have Cameron Beaubier fill in for an injured Sylvain Guintoli at Doningtion Park, May 27-29. The announcement comes just one day after Pata Yamaha announced that Guintoli was still on the mend, and unable to ride until at least the middle of June, at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli.
At 23 years old, Beaubier is an experienced traveler, having already competed in the 2007 Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup, the 2008 125cc Spanish CEV Championship, and 2009 125cc World Championship, alongside Marc Marquez. More recently, Beaubier made an appearance in the Superbike IDM International German Championship with Team Yamaha MGM, at the Schleizer Dreieck circuit.
In this trip, Beaubier will have to quickly adapt to a new team and re-adjust to an R1 wearing Pirelli tires, rather than Dunlops (as was the case when he raced in the IDM series). Fortunately, thanks to that stint in the 125cc World Championship, the 23 year-old Californian already knows his way around Donington Park.
That's not to say, of course, that he won't likely be playing a fair share of video games this week in attempt to re-familiarize himself with the track.
Stay tuned to find out how it all plays out for the reigning MotoAmerica Superbike champ.
