The legacy of Bimota is alive and well, thanks to former R&D man Paolo Girotti.Paolo Girotti

I'm firmly convinced that when he created Bimota, Massimo Tamburini never expected that his creation would stir the emotions it did among all who somehow got involved.

The problem is that the emotions ranged from love, passion and total dedication to vulture-like greediness to exploit Bimota either as a personal exhibition platform and springboard, or as a cow to be milked to the last drop. You can add a few happy-go-lucky entrepreneurs and you understand why it kept limping along for years, while offering the most fascinating bikes ever to go into production.

Among the men who were touched by the beauty that Massimo embedded in Bimota was Paolo Girotti who, after his university graduation in design and styling, worked in the Bimota R&D department from 2006 through 2007. He was then hired as a freelance professional to contribute to the creation and finalization of all the latest Bimota models. Through all those years Paolo developed a total dedication to Bimota and to its tradition of beauty and perfection. And for the past eight years he perfected his plan to acquire, if not the whole firm, at least the “historical section” of it, to honor the beauty and the quality of all the great models that made the Bimota name renown the world over. Paolo worked with enormous passion and determination.

“Paolo’s Bimota Classic Parts quickly became an absolute reference point for all of Bimota’s ever-faithful collectors and racers taking part in all classic bikes races.”

Step by step he was able to set up his shop in his hometown Città della Pieve, near Perugia, in central Italy. First he was able to broker an agreement with Bimota about the distribution of the original spare parts that were in the shelves of the firm. He collected everything and set up the first section of his business that appropriately was named Bimota Classic Parts. To ensure a constant supply of all mechanical, electronics and body parts, Paolo acquired all the Bimota spare parts stock. The second step of Bimota Classic Parts included brokering supply contracts with all the original Bimota suppliers.

Finally he began the painstaking research of all the original molds in order to realize perfect copies of all body and mechanical components. The final contract was set with the present ownership, Bimota SA, granting Paolo the use of the Bimota trademark and the exclusive right of worldwide distribution of all the spare parts and components regarding all Bimota models from 1973 to 2003, plus the Tesi 2D and the SB8K.

When Pierluigi Marconi returned to lead Bimota in 2015, he strongly supported the deal with Bimota Classic Parts and worked to perfect it. The results were very positive in terms of sales and return. Paolo’s Bimota Classic Parts quickly became an absolute reference point for all of Bimota’s ever-faithful collectors and racers taking part in all classic bikes races. Now Bimota Classic Parts operates in full autonomy from Bimota SA, with representatives in all major markets. In the USA it is Robert Steinbugler.

During the past three years Bimota Classic Parts business has grown very brilliantly and this led Paolo to further increase the stock of parts immediately available, for the better gratification of the passionate customers. To keep the flame of passion alive, Paolo organizes a yearly rally of Bimota owners in his own town, plus another 20 events around the world, in association with his representatives and partners. The response is formidable confirming the magic of the Bimota heritage.

For the future, Paolo intends to support the presence of Bimota bikes in classic bikes racing activity by creating a racing team and developing special racing kits for the HB2, KB3, SB4, YB5 and Tesi D1 models. This will be another great way to keep the Bimota name alive and honored around the world.
