Ben Bostrom Writes An Open Letter To Dave Mirra

Former AMA Superbike champion dedicated last weekend's Ironman effort to his late friend and training partner

UPDATE: Ben Bostrom finished in 10 hours, 36 minutes, and 29 seconds—147th in class, 827th overall. He completed the 2.4-mile swim in 1:14.31, the 112-mile bike portion of the race in 5:06.49, and ran 26.2 miles in 4:05.45. Germany's Jan Frodeno won the race with a time of 8:06:30.

Former AMA Superbike Champion Ben Bostrom is competing this weekend in the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii, which combines the 2.4-mile Waikiki Roughwater Swim, 112 miles of the Around-O’ahu Bike Race, and the 26.2-mile Honolulu Marathon in a single event.

A seven-time World Superbike race winner, Bostrom has dedicated his effort to late friend and training partner, BMX freestyle legend Dave Mirra.

Mirra, who killed himself this past February, was diagnosed post-mortem with chronic traumatic encephalopathy, a brain disease linked to head trauma. Bostrom teamed with Mirra, Micky Dymond, and Dave Zabriskie to win the 2014 Race Across America.

Bostrom is competing in the 40-44 age group. You can track his progress in the race here.
