2018 Suzuki Burgman 200

Scooter tech has advanced right along with motorcycles.

It’s true the Burgman 200 looks small, thanks to its kiddie-sized wheels (13-inch front, 12-inch rear). But don’t let this fool you, because Suzuki’s entry-level scooter actually has some capabilities that put it in motorcycle territory. For one, its electric-start single has both fuel injection and liquid-cooling, enabling quick startups and clean, efficient running regardless of altitude or weather. And the 200cc displacement makes the Burgman 200 freeway legal (technically, at least; freeway flying isn’t its best skill), while its dual saddle adds versatility, and front and rear disc brakes are ABS-equipped.

The Burgman then layers on such “scooter” features as a large underseat storage area (at 41 liters, capacity enough for a helmet and satchel or groceries), an automatic transmission that requires no clutch work and no shifting, and even a 12-volt charging port for your cellphone. Naturally, all of these features add mass, and so the littlest Burgman weighs in at a claimed 359 pounds—lightweight bike territory.

Likes: Lots of useful features packed into an affordable scooter.

Dislikes: The small wheels, long 57.7-inch wheelbase, and curb weight.

Verdict: For little scratch, the Burgman provides ease of use and versatility.
