DYNO VIDEO: 2016 Indian Chief Dark Horse

Torque is chief on the Cycle World dyno.

If there were ever an engine that illustrated an emphasis on low-range torque over peak horsepower output, Indian’s 1811cc Thunder Stroke 111 V-twin is it. This six-speed beast hammers out so much brute force right off idle, you may begin to wonder if a gearbox is even required. Well of course it is, however, downshifts are truly optional once up to speed and settled into a drumming cruise.
