We had received the memo: Drop everything and go to Yamaha’s MotoAmerica Superbike race hospitality area at Laguna Seca to see the 2020 YZF-R1 ($17,300) and limited-production 2020 YZF-R1M ($26,099). For a month, the internet had vibrated with speculation. Would this be an update? Could it be all-new, top to bottom, and so the first Japanese MotoGP replica? Talk, talk, talk, but no info. Patience! We took our seats. Umbrella girls were in position. No phone bandwidth; so many of us trying to report!
