A group of American enthusiasts who have a special taste for extreme and exclusive Italian superbikes was invited to Buttonwillow Raceway to get a first look and feel of the Aprilia RSV4 RR 1000 Misano Limited Edition and Tuono RR 1100 Misano Limited Edition. This Aprilia RSV4 and its naked derivative Tuono further add more cachet to two of the most refined superbikes on the market today.
Although the original RSV4 project dates back to 2008, it was so incredibly advanced that I personally regret that Aprilia pulled out of the SBK series for a conflict with the rule book because I firmly believe that wild 65-degree V-4 1000 would still be hard to beat, given also the outstanding finesse of the chassis and of its setting.
This is the first time that Aprilia developed a specific “American” edition of its two top models, further enhancing the very sleek and penetrating styling by selecting a very luminous grade of silver white like we have never seen before. The bikes look lighter and sleeker, and the Italian tricolor graphics complete with the big Aprilia “A” add the right amount of aggressiveness with its obvious reference to the racing successes Aprilia collected in the sport through the past 40-plus years.
In addition to the exclusive color schemes and graphics, the special Misano editions of RSV4 and Tuono feature special carbon fiber front fenders and more. From the technical point of view, the bikes are based on the terrific RSV4 and Tuono Factory editions, featuring the latest edition of the 65-degree V-4 enlarged to 1,100cc, an absolute monster for power and torque. On the RSV4 this unit, complete with Akrapovič exhaust system, delivers a claimed 217 hp at 13,000 rpm, while on the Tuono the power is a little more tame with a claimed 175 hp at 11,000 rpm.
Both chassis are equipped with top-of-the-class components including Öhlins suspension units front and rear and twin Brembo 330mm front discs with M50 calipers. To assist riders at keeping all that power under control, both models are blessed with Aprilia’s most advanced electronics suite in production today.
The Aprilia RSV4 1000 RR and Tuono 1100 RR Misano Limited Editions come to America with only 100 units available, duly numbered, and are respectively priced $17,999 and $15,999. So anyone interested had better hurry.
