No one can doubt that "Magic" Marc Marquez is well on his way to challenging Valentino Rossi and Giacomo Agostini for the title of greatest of all time. The 24-year-old Repsol Honda rider is already credited with six world titles, including four of the last five in MotoGP.
“The truth is that I’m incredibly happy because we worked so much this year,” Marquez said following the final round at Valencia, “and today the race was incredibly tense and exciting—a bit ‘Marquez style.’ I made a mistake, but I also made my best save of the year.”
Outbraking himself going into turn one at Valencia to stay ahead of Johann Zarco, Marquez lost the front in what for any other rider would have surely been a crash. Marquez executed a trademark elbow save, in the process saving his championship.
It’s a perfect snapshot of Marquez: With the title on the line, he can’t help but remain himself. Marquez’s talent, daring, and courage pushes everyone in the field to be better. He never makes winning look easy, which is why six titles on, he’s still thrilling to watch.
