Yamaha | 2014 Sportbike Buyer's Guide

Research new Yamaha motorcycles. Sport Rider has spec ratios and price comparisons of many 2014 Yamaha sportbike models.

Yamaha FJR1300A/ES $15,890/$16890
Engine: L-C 16V 1298 Inline-Four Seat Height: 31.7-32.5 in. Wheelbase: 60.8 in.
Yamaha FJR1300

Although Yamaha updated its big sport-tourer just last year, it has gone a step further for 2014 with the addition of the ES model, which is equipped with an electronic suspension system that adjusts front damping, rear damping, and preload based on a variety of available presets. Both models are available in this striking Candy Red.

Yamaha YZF-R1 $14,290
Engine: L-C 16V 998 Inline-Four Seat Height: 32.9 in. Wheelbase: 55.7 in.
Yamaha YZF-R1

Some say the R1 is overdue for an update, but Josh Herrin and Josh Hayes will say otherwise: By winning his first AMA Superbike championship last year, Josh Herrin brings the count to four championships in a row for the YZF-R1. For 2014, the R1 is available in red, gray, or this blue/white that adds $200 to the list price.

Yamaha YZF-R6 $10,990
Engine: L-C 16V 599 Inline-Four Seat Height: 33.5 in. Wheelbase: 54.1 in.
Yamaha YZF-R6

Going a step further with Yamaha's dominance in AMA Pro Racing, Cameron Beaubier won all but one Daytona SportBike race on his way to the 2013 championship in that class riding a YZF-R6. And don't forget Sam Lowes winning the World Supersport title, also on an R6. This year, it's available in red/white, gray, or blue/white (adds $200).

Yamaha FZ1 $10,790
Engine: L-C 20V 998 Inline-Four Seat Height: 32.1 in. Wheelbase: 57.5 in.
Yamaha FZ1

“The FZ1 provides long ride comfort with literbike performance so you don't have to compromise,” Yamaha says about the FZ1, which combines the previous-generation 20-valve R1 motor with a high-tech aluminum frame and solid running gear. No changes for 2014, and Pearl White is the color on tap.

Yamaha FZ-09 $7,990
Engine: L-C 12V 847 Inline-Triple Seat Height: 32.1 in. Wheelbase: 56.7 in.
Yamaha FZ-09

A Yamaha triple was long-anticipated, and it is finally here in the FZ-09 naked bike with an 847cc engine, an all-new chassis and running gear, and stellar performance. In our last issue's first-ride report, Kento said, “Here's one of those very rare bikes less than $8,000 that doesn't have to make any excuses for its low price.”

Yamaha FZ6R $7,790
Engine: L-C 16V 600 Inline-Four Seat Height: 30.9 in. Wheelbase: 56.7 in.
Yamaha FZ6R

Even though it might not look the part, the FZ6R is Yamaha's entry-level sportbike, with a low seat height, comfortable ergonomics, and a torquey 600cc engine “that you won't outgrow anytime soon,” the company says. It returns unchanged for this year, in Raven or red/white (shown) that adds $100 to the price.
