Ducati Multistrada D-Air - First Look

New Multistrada D-Air works wirelessly with airbag vests and jackets to protect riders in the event of an impact. Unfortunately, this new bike is only for Europe.

The Multistrada, Ducati's best-selling model, is a comfortable and capable GT bike that combines strong performance with the versatility of a big ADV bike. Now, Ducati has further invested in the Multistrada with the D-Air version, a new model designed to significantly reduce the risk of an injury in the event of an impact. In association with Dainese, Ducati has developed a fully wireless system that inflates airbag vests and jackets (for rider and passenger) in as little as 45 milliseconds whenever the D-Air's sensors determine that an impact is imminent.

Ducati sells a number of airbag-equipped touring vests and jackets developed with Dainese, and the new Multistrada D-Air has been designed to make the best use of them. Motorcycle airbags react significantly more quickly than before, thanks to fully digital systems that have replaced the mechanical triggering of the early days, and Ducati says the new Multistrada D-Air is the first production bike in the world to take advantage of this wireless technological evolution. The Multistrada D-Air begins rolling off the Borgo Panigale assembly line in mid-May. Although this wireless airbag technology is reserved for Europe, it certainly could make its way across the pond.
