2008-2009 IBOTY: MotorWereld, Belgium

World journalists pick the International Bike of the Year 2008-2009.

2008-2009 IBOTY: MotorWereld, Belgium

1. Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade

In 2008 Honda, usually such a conservative brand, gave us a new Fireblade that is not merely optically similar to a 600cc Supersport bike. It feels just as compact, but places 177 hp under your butt! Regarding the looks, opinions were divided at first, but after some getting used to it, most negative opinions were adjusted somewhat. Honda has a real winner on its hands with this 'Blade and we suspect that this feeling will only be fortified in 2009, with the ABS version being released.

2. Honda CB1000R

In numbers, the CB1000R isn't exactly the sort of bike that pulls the rug from under your feet. This is applicable to both the engine and the chassis. However, riding it makes you realize just what a finely balanced bike Honda's youngest naked really is. A balance that adds up to precise, easy and fun handling. Factor in a torquey, sweet-running engine and there it is, the naked bike of 2008.

3. MV Agusta F4R 312RR 1078

The most balanced F4 ever. Despite—or maybe because of—its increased engine capacity, this biggest of F4s is also the easiest to handle. It is strong on the track and quicker than its predecessors on the road. Because there were some production problems at MV, none of the models will be changed for the new model year, so the 2008 model is by default also the 2009 F4 312RR 1078. That can be called good news.
