2008-2009 IBOTY: Bike, United Kingdom

World journalists pick the International Bike of the Year 2008-2009.

2008-2009 IBOTY: Bike, United Kingdom

1. Triumph Street Triple

A riotously entertaining motorcycle, a genre-defying fun monster that shows up 600cc sportbikes as compromised on the road and in danger of taking themselves far too seriously. It's impossible to ride without a wide grin and even wider eyes as it fizzes around bumpy roads like a 5-year-old with a sparkler. It could only be built by people with a healthy sense of British humor.

2. Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade

So ridiculously fast, yet so bafflingly stable under all conditions. It makes an instant John McGuinness (14-time Isle of Man TT winner) of us all. Go with God. It feels a generation ahead of anything else here. Surprisingly easy to ride despite being stupidly fast. You remember the composure, not the speed.

3. KTM 990 Adventure

Possibly the perfect all-rounder. The engine's eager and punchy, the supple suspension gives a floating, pampering ride, and the ample riding position and blunt screen make it comfortable regardless of rider proportions, road quality or distance. It's the most complete motorcycle on sale—the GS Beemer is no doubt more advanced and well-kitted, but it lacks that crucial element: never-ending hooligan hilarity.
