XtraPix: Double Standard - First Look

The title for our Suzuki Bandit 1250S vs. Yamaha FZ1 comparison test seemed very fitting, as both of these bikes are faithful representations of the modern Japanese standard-style motorcycle. They are also as different from one another as the riders each would likely appeal to. The Bandit motivates with low- to mid-rpm torque while the FZ1 zaps the zealous with its hi-rev delivery. Both are well suited to everyday duty while offering viable sporting functionality as an added bonus. These are two bikes with true split personalities.

The Bandit?s optional ABS for an additional $500 is a steal.

The Bandit and FZ1 headlamps burn bright enough to make road reflectors glow mid-day.

Some photos just aren?t fit for print publication. Darn that pole!

The right helmet paint scheme can lend the solid-color FZ1 a bit of sizzle.

A centerstand as standard equipment is a great convenience feature both bikes provide.

These Double Standards are as different as they are similar.
