If the size and versatile capability of the Kawasaki KLX230 dual sport interests you, but you’re planning to spend more time on the asphalt than in the dirt, then have a look at the Kawasaki KLX230SM. This supermoto variant of the popular 230cc platform from Kawasaki rides on street tires and 17-inch wheels, similar to a sportbike, for a fun, zippy ride capable of carving through curvy roads and urban environments.
The 233cc four-stroke single-cylinder engine has electric start and fuel injection for a fun, easy maintenance ride. Six speeds means it is capable of getting up to freeway speeds, making it as capable in the city as it is on dirt roads. On the chassis side, the KLX230SM features long-travel suspension with 7.4 inches of travel up front and 8.8 inches in the rear, meaning it maintains its off-road performance chops, even if it is better suited for the pavement miles.
Compared to the Kawasaki KLX230 dual sport, with which the KLX230SM shares a platform, the smaller 17-inch wheel sizes (as opposed to the 21/18-inch wheels of the KLX230) gives the KLX230SM an even lower seat height of 33.1 inches. A supermoto option in a compact not-quite-full-size motorcycle such as the KLX230SM is unique, and therefore doesn’t have much in the way of competition. But if you’re ready to raise heck on this versatile midsize runabout, then grab a KLX230SM when you can find it.
The 2025 Kawasaki KLX230SM ABS is available in Battle Gray for $5599.
