MV Agusta is celebrating the 80th anniversary from the creation of its first motorcycle engine, a 98cc two-stroke single that was kept hidden from the German army and went into production in 1945, after the end of World War II. To celebrate the anniversary, MV Agusta is creating a special 80th anniversary edition of all its six present three- and four-cylinder models.

These special editions will be limited to 500 numbered units per model which means that, by the numbers, the 80th anniversary editions will take up almost the entire manufacturing capability of the MV Agusta factory. To these must be added the 300 units of the new F3 Competizione, which is the real novelty.

MV Agusta’s two four-cylinder models, the Brutale 1000 Ottantesimo and Brutale 1000 RR Ottantesimo, are vastly renewed in their technology. The company’s celebrated radial-valve four-cylinder 1000 receives a brand-new and more sophisticated ECU, giving access to new maps. MV also claims the ECU produces superior throttle response with easier torque delivery in all riding conditions.

In combination with the new ECU, new cam profiles have been developed. This produced a very conspicuous result: The engine now delivers a practically unchanged 201 hp claimed peak power at 13,500 rpm, but with an immensely fatter torque curve that gained 7.4 lb.-ft. at 3,500 rpm, 14.1 lb.-ft. at 5,500 rpm, 8.2 lb.-ft. at 8,000 rpm, and 7.3 lb.-ft. at 9,500 rpm; all contributing to an impressively vigorous and yet progressive response. Peak torque now is 85.5 lb.-ft. at 11,000 rpm, defining the renewed MV Agusta 1,000cc four as one of the strongest and most responsive engines in the class.

To extract the best from this unit, a new exhaust system was developed in collaboration with Arrow. A new 10-disc slipper clutch offers lighter and easier action while ensuring a stronger connection with the engine. A modified ride-by-wire system and four riding modes offer improved rider-to-bike interface.

The Brutale 1000 RR Ottantesimo is the ultimate edition of the MV Agusta naked superbike and, in relation to the Brutale 1000 Ottantesimo, it features the latest Öhlins Smart EC 3.0 electronically managed suspension. That, thanks to a dedicated algorithm, processes inputs from the six-axis inertial platform, the engine ECU, and the ABS system analyzing braking, cornering lean angle and speed, and acceleration to modulate the suspension response to give maximum support to the rider.

MV Agusta’s Brutale 1000 RR Ottantesimo comes in Fire Red and Ago Matte Silver with all carbon fiber components in visible texture for that extra touch of high-tech bling. The Brutale 1000 Ottantesimo comes in an aggressive graphic treatment that combines Ago Red and Ago Silver with the vintage MV logo on the tank.
