People who ride motorcycles and scooters in what used to be called the First World purely for recreation too easily forget that their “toys” are first and foremost transportation devices. But people in the Third World use any motorized conveyance to replace Shank’s Mare or real mares for getting around and doing essential tasks—such as, [...]Read Full Post | Comments(0)
Photography by Jeff Allen After only a couple days in Milano at the world’s biggest motorcycle show, in the world’s hippest fashion capitol, I have to say I have never felt so short, old, unkempt and uncool in my entire life. I don’t know what they feed the Italian women to make them grow so [...]Read Full Post | Comments(0)

Honda is exploring new and more efficient ways to deal with urban traffic. At EICMA, it showed the Integra, NC700S, NC700X and a production version of the Crosstourer concept unveiled last year at Intermot. Three of the four machines are powered by a 670cc parallel-Twin; the Crosstourer uses the 1237cc V-Four from the VFR1200F. Honda [...]Read Full Post | Comments(0)

Quarantasei means 46 in Italian, and if the name of this sleek new scooter were written numerically, someone might be led to believe that Piaggio was trying to snatch legendary MotoGP racer Valentino Rossi away from Ducati. Not so! Here, “Quarantasei” refers to the birth year of the greatest scooter of all time: the Vespa. [...]Read Full Post | Comments(0)
Photography by Jeff Allen At BMW’s stylish EICMA display, hopes were dashed with the non-introduction of a liquid-cooled big GS we thought might appear. Instead, there’s a cosmetic upgrade to the existing R1200GS—the Rallye. But there was a first for BMW: a pair of “maxi-scooters”—the C 600 Sport and C 650 GT. The C 600 [...]Read Full Post | Comments(1)
Halloween is fun, Thanksgiving’s nice and it’s like Christmas every day when you ride motorcycles. But what keeps us two-wheel enthusiasts awake in our footie pajamas, filled with expectations, and kicks off our holiday season every November is the annual pilgrimage to EICMA—the Esposizione Internazionale del Ciclo e Motociclo! That’s the International Exposition of Bicycles [...]Read Full Post | Comments(0)
Compact, lightweight and powerful describe Piaggio’s new 350 scooter engine more precisely than you might think. In fact, this little Single proved so incredibly efficient during my recent test ride that it became the “main character” of the event, making the Beverly Sport Touring model that it powers secondary to the story. This new engine [...]Read Full Post | Comments(1)
When performance-minded enthusiasts hear the name “Aprilia,” many no doubt think about the RSV 4—the hot-rod V-Twin production racer-replica that is almost as sophisticated as a MotoGP prototype. Not this time. The SRV 850 is a smart repositioning of the not-so-successful Gilera GP 800. In 2007, when the GP 800 was introduced, Gilera had already [...]Read Full Post | Comments(0)
Honda has announced a product called “Integra,” which is a light-duty-touring-style motorcycle with super-scooter overtones, powered by a high-efficiency, 700cc parallel-Twin, driving through either a second-generation Dual Clutch Transmission or a six-speed conventional transmission. To ensure excellent stable idle and good low-to-mid-speed combustion, this engine has been given the car-engine-like longer-stroke dimensions of 73 x [...]Read Full Post | Comments(1)
