KEVIN'S INSIGHTS: The Perfect Race

Marc Marquez thinks it through

“After choosing the hard front tire I had only one strategy: wait from the beginning and understand well the front tire – and then push in the middle of the race, and the end.”

A look at the analysis chart reveals just this – consistent 2:05s, speeding up from lap 10 until lap 14, when he unleashed a pair of 2:04s (his lap 15 was the fastest of the race). Looks like scheduled operation to me.

“In the end there was no way to stay with the medium because I knew that I push a lot with the front tire and at the beginning of the race I was trying to take care, trying to understand where was the limit of this tire.”

Old Dan’l Boone was said to live by the motto, “First be sure you’re right. Then go ahead.” Marquez took the measure of his tire choice, saw that it was in fact able to deliver consistent laps, and then he pushed.

“Then, when I saw that (Pedrosa) was suffering a little bit (we saw it too – little slips) I said it was time to attack. It was the perfect race for me, really consistent, under control, and I’m really happy to be back in the championship.”
