When it was introduced two years ago as an early-release 2009 model, the 696 represented the beginning of the brand-new Monster line, featuring a major styling and technical makeover. The frame is a hybrid steel-trellis and cast aluminum unit, while power comes from an 80-horsepower, 696cc air-cooled Twin. Recent updates include four-way-adjustable brake and clutch levers, a larger heat shield for the high-mounted mufflers and new engine cases that use vacural casting technology to save 2.2 pounds over the previous model. Anti-lock brakes are available as an option.
