This is the top-of-the-ladder step for any Italian superbike fanatic: a full-on homologation special made just for racing. Mechanically identical to last year's 180-horsepower 1098 R Troy Bayliss Edition, the 1198 R differs in name, which is a direct reflection of its engine displacement, and special Ducati Corse paint and graphics. Brembo four-piston Monobloc front brakes and Öhlins suspension are standard, while the bike rolls on forged aluminum Y-spoke wheels. The R "kit" includes a Termignoni race exhaust and suitably programmed ECU, a rear stand and a desk plaque verifying authenticity.
