The original 1098 knocked our socks off. It represented a major elevation in performance over the previous 999, not to mention looking loads better with its elegant styling. This year's model, the 1198—yes, 1198—is an even better performer, a bump in displacement, among other engine and gearbox modifications, bringing output to 170 horsepower at 9750 rpm. Torque is up, too, to 97 foot-pounds at 8000 rpm. Also available: The 1198 S, fitted with extra carbon-fiber bits and Öhlins suspension rather than the Showa pieces used on the standard model, plus Ducati Traction Control.
