Cycle World has once again teamed with AMA Pro Racing and RPM Racing to bring you live streaming video of the Superprestigio Dirt Track from the Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona, Spain. Coverage on www.CycleWorld.com will begin on Saturday, December 13, at 9:00 a.m. Pacific Standard Time.
Journalist and former racer Dennis Noyes and seven-time AMA Grand National Champion Chris Carr will preview the evening's festivities. MotoGP announcer Gregory Haines and Carr will call the heats, finals, and winner-take-all 12-lap Superfinal.
Established in 1979 by magazine publisher Jaime Alguersuari and held 15 times at various pavement venues, the Superprestigio has featured Americans John Kocinski, Kenny Roberts Jr., and Colin Edwards, as well as Randy Mamola, Rich Oliver, and Chris D’Alusio. Jay Springsteen and Steve Morehead also competed in RPM-organized dirt-track races.
Revived last January by two-time MotoGP World Champion Marc Marquez, the Superprestigio brings together top roadracing, dirt-track, motocross, off-road, speedway, and supermoto stars, including 10 world champions, for what is certain to be a spectacular evening of short-track competition on the 200-meter oval.
In January, Marquez invited 2013 AMA Pro Flat Track Grand National Champion Brad Baker to participate. Baker won the Superfinal after he and Marquez tangled and the Spaniard crashed unhurt. Current Moto2 World Champion Tito Rabat was second, and Kenny Noyes, who won the 2014 FIM CEV Repsol International Superbike Championship, completed the podium.
For this event, 2014 AMA Pro Flat Track Grand National Champion Jared Mees and six-time AMA Pro Singles and two-time Pro Twins race-winner Shayna Texter will join Baker and Noyes in Barcelona. AMA Pro Flat Track starter Kevin Clark will once again be on hand to thrill fans in the 13,500-seat stadium with his inimitable style.
A truly international affair, the invitation-only event will include riders from Australia, Belgium, England, France, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, and the United States, and be televised in a dozen countries. Live coverage of the Superprestigio Dirt Track on www.CycleWorld.com is available only in North America.
