EICMA FIRST LOOK: Moto Guzzi MGX21

New Guzzi concept shown at EICMA has a 21-inch front wheel.

In addition to the Audace and Eldorado variations of the California 1400 model, Moto Guzzi also unveiled at EICMA an extreme concept bike dubbed MGX21. This bike, the Moto Guzzi Experimental 21 (which refers to the bike's 21-inch front wheel), tries to mix the tradition of a real Moto Guzzi and its 1,400cc V-twin with the spirit of the American Cruiser.

The result? I have mixed feelings. Basically, this Guzzi concept bike would profit from some additional thought. The whole front section, with well designed top and center fairings, are clearly emotionally inspired. Less so is the rear, and the Vespa-style side cowls are puzzling. On the other hand, the Moto Guzzi MGX21 certainly looks dynamic and lean, thanks in part to its long wheelbase matte-black paint with red accents.
