Make Some Sparks Fly

Tip #147 from the pages of The Total Motorcycling Manual

Nothing says hooligan like a big ol’ stream of sparks flying off your centerstand as you tear down the highway at night. People in cars are going to think it’s the end of the world. Do it in front of the cops and you’ll get in trouble faster than if you’d mooned the police chief’s wife. And nothing is as much fun.

It’s easy. Just get going at a nice rate of speed, 30–60 mph (48–96 kph). Keep the bike vertical, without leaning left or right. Then take your left boot heel, put it on your centerstand tang, and press down, hard! A huge stream of sparks will fly behind you, and you’ll laugh like a maniac inside your helmet. Do it enough and you’ll grind the entire stand into uselessness and discover the high cost of replacing it. Which will be totally worth it.
