2014 Suzuki GSX1300R Hayabusa 50th Anniversary Edition - First Look

Two-tone paint differentiates anniversary model from standard ’Busa.

Suzuki unveiled a second limited-edition big-bore sportbike last week at the inaugural American International Motorcycle Expo in Orlando, Florida. The GSX1300R Hayabusa 50th Anniversary Edition joins the previously announced GSX-R1000 Special Edition in Suzuki's 2014 model lineup.

Intended as further celebration of Suzuki’s five decades in the U.S. market, the anniversary Hayabusa is only available in two-tone Candy Daring Red/Glass Sparkle Black with red-striped black wheels. Also painted black and featuring red “Brembo” lettering, the radial-mount Monobloc front brakes are otherwise identical to the anti-lock calipers introduced this past year on the 2013 GSX1300R.

Launched in 1999, the Hayabusa—named after the Japanese peregrine falcon, a crow-sized bird considered to be the fastest member of the animal kingdom—is powered by a liquid-cooled, DOHC, 1340cc inline-four. The last Hayabusa that Cycle World tested produced 173 horsepower and 104 pound-feet of peak torque (S-DMS, mode A). That bike posted a 0-60-mph time of 2.5 seconds and a top speed of 186 mph. Current claimed dry weight is 586 pounds.

Pricing has not been announced for either the 2014 GSX1300R Hayabusa or the GSX1300R Hayabusa Limited Edition.
