After a damp start to this morning’s second qualifying session, Rea’s Monza team-mate, Kosuke Akiyoshi, narrowly missed out on Superpole. The Japanese ace then crashed unhurt early in Free Practice 2, reducing his track time further.

It is Akiyoshi’s first visit to the 5.777km Autodromo Nationale di Monza, and his first time on the team’s Pirelli-shod CBR package, but he improved his lap time this morning by almost a second and is looking forward to tomorrow’s two 18-lap races.
