Enduro: 2013 Erzberg-Rodeo XIX

ErzbergRodeo Press Release:

Ladies & Gentlemen, start your computers: the Erzbergrodeo opens for the 1500 entries for the 19th edition of the infamous Xtreme-Enduro.

The run for the entry spots starts on Friday, November 30th at exactly 9:00 a.m. CET with the opening of the Erzbergrodeo’s online registration once again offered in a “first come, first serve” method. In 2012 the online registration was pulled offline after a record breaking 49 minutes – and the entire race was sold out a few days after registration had begun. In addition, more than 1000 hopeful dirt bike riders were added to the waiting list for the world’s biggest motorcycle off road event.

Erzbergrodeo XIX: Full throttle on 4 days of action!

Erzbergrodeo’s mastermind Karl Katoch and his crew will once again “let the pigs fly“ at the 19th edition of the renowned dirt bike event. The Erzbergrodeo presents three unique and breathtaking types of racing over the 4 days of action: the Kärcher Rocket Ride, the Generali Iron Road Prolog and the infamous Red Bull Hare Scramble. “The Erzberg’s terrain is steadily changing due to the ongoing mining process providing a lot of challenges for the organization of the event, yet it also opens up many possibilities for us to improve on the different track layouts of the races.“, Katoch explains. “We will present some spectacular novelties for Prologue and Hare Scramble which will excite our competitors, as well as all spectators. For the Rocket Ride we’ll stay as traditional as possible: higher, faster, steeper! This recipe will make for a proper and interesting menu!”, the race promoter smiles.

KÄRCHER ROCKET RIDE: The sky is the limit!

The spectacular hill climb-race has already become a true highlight for racers and spectators. It’s all about full throttle from start to finish at the mighty uphill sections close to the Erzbergrodeo-Arena. Riders love to pin it without any major risk for man and machinery, and that’s probably one good reason for the massive popularity of this race format. Both length and steepness of the 2013 track will be further enlarged to provide another outstanding experience for the competitors. The Kärcher Rocket Ride 2013 will be traditionally held on the Erzbergrodeo’s first day of action (Thursday, May 30th) and is limited to a total amount of 300 participants.

GENERALI IRON ROAD PROLOGUE: The unique high-speed adventure

The Generali Iron Road Prologue, the spectacular high-speed dirt bike race to the Erzberg’s summit, will be upgraded as well. “We’ll add some track length and some more excitement to the Prologue. We also want the fans to get closer to the breathtaking action, so we will add more spectator zones alongside the racetrack.”, Karl Katoch sums up the Prologue’s novelties for 2013. Last years track markers will be once again implemented to prevent any ambitions to short-cut the Prologue’s 15 kilometers long gravel racetrack. What does it take to win? Katoch explains the perfect riding style: “To be really fast on the up to 30 meters wide racetrack you have to find the perfect line through the many corners. To carry your speed from the straights into the hairpins is absolutely crucial to gain valuable time on your opponents. In most of the cases, short cutting will even result in a loss of time.” With 1500 participants from 39 nations and 5 continents, the Generali Iron Road Prologue is regarded as the world’s biggest and most spectacular motorcycle off road race.

RED BULL HARE SCRAMBLE: LIVE all over the World!

Extreme sports followers all over the globe will be able to watch the spectacular footage from the Red Bull Hare Scramble once more LIVE in 2013. With an extremely successful first-time live-broadcasting of the unique race in 2012 under their belt, the Red Bull Media House crew is eager to up the ante next year. “Red Bull is investing a lot of effort to top their outstanding job and offer even more spectacular footage.”

Still, the success for an ambitious TV-project like this will be based on the unique and extremely selective characteristic of the Red Bull Hare Scramble itself. Race promotor Karl Katoch leaves no doubt about the fact, that the Erzbergrodeo’s highlight remains one of a kind. “The new track design will further direct the race towards a more Enduro-like characteristic. But don’t worry – the Red Bull Hare Scramble will remain a quite mean thing to handle, and it will still take competitors to their limits. You’ll need a lot of strength, endurance and riding skills to reach the finish line, and only complete riders can even dare to think about the podium.“, Katoch explains. The 500 participants of the unique event have to tackle the extremely tough 25 kilometer long racetrack within a maximum time of four hours, passing 20 checkpoints on the way to the finish. To receive help from spectators is only allowed within the first sections of the race, the majority of the racetrack will be once again marked as “No-Help zone”.

Erzbergrodeo rider paddock 2013: The return to the action!

Good news for all participants and their entourage: the rider paddock will return back to it’s traditional location close to the Erzbergrodeo-Arena in 2013, causing a shorter way to the middle of action and evening entertainment! As a consequence of the ongoing mining process in 2012, the paddock for 5000 riders and entourage had to be moved further away from the event’s pulsing center.

The already impressive offer of entertainment, action and gastronomy inside the Erzbergrodeo-Arena will be even extended by a record-high amount of vendors and factory team exhibitions. The Arena’s own off road course will hold the spectacular rider presentations in front of the huge daylight video wall which will also feature the Red Bull Hare Scramble Live-broadcast on Sunday. While the Special Guest Lounge offers its guests a very exclusive experience of the event, the notorious Rider Parties inside the big festival marquee will once again fire up the Iron Giant all night long.
