Securing national television coverage of an amateur event will help the sport and the industry behind it. Kudos to NBC. I hope they show the mini-racers. . .big boys on big bikes is cool and all, but there is something extremely pure about egoless kids, who only know that it is fun to go fast and jump, that makes the racing more human.

More attention should be focused on amateur racing all around, in all genres. Too often the pros are held in such lofty coverage it makes the common riders feel even smaller. I’ve talked to many pros, and the best all act like normal people, and the purest don’t like any deferral to their skills at all. Sure, some want to be seen as gods, but most are a little like Guy Martin who seems to feel it’s odd to put any person on a pedestal, and who seems to wonder why, if so many are interested in what he does, they don’t just give it a go themselves.

Maybe more would try if they are shown more amateur racing. Hope so. Racing, on any level, teaches a type of humility that is lacking in some areas of the moto-world.
