Cycle World to Support Ride for Kids Through eBay Auction of Motorcycle Helmets, Jackets Gloves, Boots and More—By Evan Cooper

A decade ago, Cycle World and Ride for Kids came together with a common goal to make a difference in the lives of brain tumor survivors. With the importance of education in mind, the foundation was built for Cycle World’s Joseph C. Parkhurst Education Fund. This fund, named after Cycle World’s founder, Joe Parkhurst, is a unique college scholarship fund dedicated to helping pediatric brain tumor survivors achieve their educational hopes and dreams.

Due to the tremendous advancements made in pediatric brain tumor research and treatment, more children are surviving the deadliest form of childhood cancer than ever before. As they progress in school and aspire to attend college, they are faced with yet another challenge. After many years of life-saving medical procedures and stacking medical bills, families of these survivors are finding the cost of a secondary education for their children too much to bear. This unsettling reality has become commonplace for many survivors and their families, but through the efforts of Cycle World, Ride for Kids and thousands of readers, fans and supporters like you, $276,000 has been raised and 788 college scholarships have been awarded since 2002.

This resounding sense of hope and the numerous, heartwarming success stories is what inspired us to raise the bar yet again as we take our charity efforts online in our first-ever motorcycle equipment and accessory eBay auction. Starting today, Cycle World will be auctioning off new and used helmets, jackets, pants, gloves, boots, full racing leathers, replacement faceshields and other parts and accessories on eBay with 100 percent of the proceeds going to benefit the Joseph C. Parkhurst Education Fund. Bidders will have the opportunity to purchase quality motorcycle equipment, bid on memorabilia supplied by industry manufacturers for use in Cycle World magazine photo and video shoots and, most importantly, help to defray the cost of education for a well-deserving brain-tumor survivor in financial need.

Below, you will find a listing of the items available in the auction and their scheduled start dates. As you can see, we have staggered the start dates by category to make it easier to browse and bid on the wide selection of items. We are confident that you will find something you like from the auction and hope you take full advantage of this unique opportunity.

AUCTION SCHEDULE:

March 20-27: Helmets and replacement shields

March 27-April 3: Full leathers, outer shells, boots, gloves, leather jackets and leather pants

April 3-10: Textile jackets, textile pants, saddle/seat/tank bags and parts and accessories

Cycle World and Ride for Kids would like to thank you in advance for making this inaugural charity eBay auction a huge success and for choosing to support the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, the Joseph C. Parkhurst Education Fund and the many childhood brain tumor survivors desperately in need of a brighter future. With your help, we can fuel their educational hopes and dreams and help provide them with a boundaryless path to a higher education.

I’ve gotta say this is amazing and fantastic. Thanks Cycle World for all you do for this organization. I found the love and caring of the PBTF shortly after having been diagnosed with a brain tumor. The organization took me in as one of their own despite the fact I am an adult survivor and awarded me one of their scholarships as I went back to school after surgery and treatments to receive my bachelor’s degree. Thank you PBTF and everyone involved with this! Great stuff, great cause!
