2020 Yamaha YZ250FX

The Yamaha YZ250FX was first introduced in 2015 and is the Japanese manufacturer’s 250cc four-stroke cross-country competition model. It is intended to be raced in events such as the Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) series or local cross-country racing.

Yamaha gave us the opportunity to ride the all-new YZ250FX in East Coast off-road conditions when they held the intro for the bike at Randy Hawkins’ private ranch in Union, South Carolina. Contributor Allan Brown took notes on the refinement Yamaha made for the 2020 model year, “Overall, Yamaha did a great job with the updates it made to the 2020 YZ250FX. It filled in some of the small gaps the bike was missing to make it a better off-the-showroom-floor competition model.”

Some competitors for the 2020 Yamaha YZ250FX include the Honda CRF250RX and KTM 250 XC-F. Yamaha’s suggested retail price for the 2020 YZ250FX is $8,499, which is $200 more than the 2020 CRF250RX and $1,000 less than the 2020 250 XC-F.

The Yamaha YZ250FX was overhauled for 2020, enjoying many of the changes its motocross-oriented YZ250F counterpart received in 2019. The most notable updates include a completely revised engine that is now capable of being wirelessly tuned via a smartphone, revised suspension settings, a new frame, and slimmer bodywork.
